WHY VIENNA?

New Year´s Concert, Musikverein

There are many good reasons for holding important conventions to Vienna. The tradition
of Vienna as a major conference site dates back to 1815 when the city hosted the
peace negotiations following the Napoleonic wars (“Congress of Vienna”). Since then,
Vienna has established itself as a prime international conference location and ranks
among the most favored destinations in the world, providing all the infrastructure and
professionalism required to successfully organise large meetings.

Vienna is not too large; its compact old city features well-kept historic buildings, imperial
palaces and outstanding museums and galleries. It is clean, green and safe – delegates
will feel at ease while discovering its many facets. In Vienna, tradition is not only on
exhibit in museums but it is part of everyday life; if you want to get the idea, just visit one
of the traditional cafes or restaurants like Sacher´s. Austria has been member of the
European Union since 1995. Both the economy and the social system are stable and dependable, with minimal inflation
and low unemployment rates. Our currency is the Euro.

Vienna is located in the very centre of Europe and can thus be conveniently reached
by plane, car or train. Once in Vienna, the Viennese public transport network
provides an excellent and efficient service throughout the whole city.

There is a lot to see in Vienna. Delegates and their companions are not likely to
get bored. They will have a hard time choosing from the great variety of activites
that are available: cultural events like visits to the Vienna Opera House, or the “Burgtheater”, or guided tours to the palaces and museums, or just strolling
along the famous “Ringstrasse”. For those who prefer the beauty of nature,
arrangements can be made to visit the “Wienerwald” or to enjoy the excellent
local wines and food in the “Heurigen”.

Special offers include half-day tours within Vienna, full-day excursions to the Schoenbrunn Palace
surroundings, as well as pre- and post-convention tours to many attractive
cities in Central Europe, including Prague and Budapest. Vienna perfectly
combines professional, cultural and leisure activities at one stroke.
